I thought I would make a slight return to Letterboxd to say that: I really dug this film more than the average person I think.
The action was amazing, and it was actually very gritty. I loved how it's the first Star Wars to really demonstrate what's on the line, and show how passionate the rebels are. I would agree though, the characters in this are not as interesting or well developed, and some of the ways they told the story were kind of confusing leading to a lull in the middle. However, I found the story to be really intriguing and was never very bored. The first and third acts were definitely the best though (the ending was spectacular).
In my personal opinion, this is definitely one of my favorite blockbusters of the year. No it's not as good as The Force Awakens, but it's a great edition to the Star Wars canon, showing a new, more gritty side to the Star Wars universe, and creating a very action packed and intriguing film.
If only they had done a little bit more character development.
