    Happy birthday, Simon Pegg!

This is my most special film for several reasons.

After seeing Shaun of the Dead on cable and becoming obsessed with it, I was anticipating Hot Fuzz so much because I was going to be able to see the next Wright\Pegg\Frost collaboration in the theater. It was exciting to not only get to experience it as it initially came out, but I loved it just as much as Shaun. I remember wanting the DVD as soon…

We all have our favorite movies. For some, it's difficult to pick a singular favorite. What's the one movie that stands above all of the others?

Earlier this year, I stated that this was my favorite movie after rewatching it for its 35th anniversary. Then, there was a very brief period where I thought it might be RoboCop. That feeling didn't even stick for a full week. No disrespect to RoboCop. That will always be a huge favorite of mine,…

Happy 40th anniversary to an absolute banger.

Alex Cox's punk masterpiece. An incredibly strong directorial debut; one of the best of the last quarter of the 20th century. It's one of those movies that only gets better with each viewing for me. It's one of the best satires. It gets progressively stranger throughout yet the weird elements make sense in the world that is presented here. Harry Dean Stanton is the best he ever was here. It's a movie that I just enjoy spending time in with these interesting characters. Plus the soundtrack absolutely rules.

One of those movies where I can honestly say that I loved every minute of. I loved spending time with these three characters so much. It's beautiful to look at and it's the first movie in awhile that just made me feel so happy while watching it. I can't remember the last movie that boosted my mood like this did.

A genuinely funny comedy that is so much more. Probably Johnnie To's best.

Yet another incredible film from our best living filmmaker. I truly don't think that anyone else could have made it. The sad reality is that no major studio would have funded this movie if an Osage filmmaker was trying to get it made. Marty directs the hell out of it, still showing what a talent he is even at eighty. The theater intro attached before the film has him expressing how important this story was for him to tell and…
