    AMC’s Thrills and Chills feature tonight. First time seeing it on the big screen. Damn near perfect, as always, but what struck me most upon this rewatch is that the pacing is absolutely spot-on. There is not a wasted moment, and Carpenter manages to make 109 minutes feel like ten. It makes you realize how so many films today are bloated with filler. I love this movie so much.

    This film’s portrayal of webcam sex culture is so sanitized as to be borderline adorable, where dominatrixes simple crack a whip while screaming, “Louder!” This isn’t good, but it is slickly produced and compelling in the moment.     You can have all the great production design you want, but if you choose to do nothing with it, that's your fault. So is the issue with Hell Fest, a film that has atmosphere to spare but not a single ounce of creativity. This film isn't a total wash: the acting is surprisingly better than you would expect (I don't know who this Roby Attal guy is that plays Gavin, but he nails teenage awkwardness, especially in his first date…
