The Handmaiden

The Handmaiden ★★★★½

Park Chan-wook has created a spellbinding, intricately balanced, cinematic ode to love and all that it entails. The way in which the story constantly switched beats is a work of genius. Clearly influenced by Hitchcock, bit daring to go further than Hitch ever did in terms of sexual encounters and lust. The cast's performance's are simply onerous. Again, constantly changing relationships keep the viewer connected. The film itself looks and sounds gorgeous. Every shot is nuanced, every sound is purposeful. The only slight issue I have is the length of it. I felt the story could have wrapped up sooner that what it did.

The Handmaiden is a feast; a devilishly glutinous one.
