The Film Wook’s review published on Letterboxd:
What a great cussin’ movie
Sad to say this was my first time watching Fantastic Mr. Fox. The first thought that popped into my head when it started was, “Ok this is starting off a bit weird, lets just see where this goes”, and HOLY HELL did Wes Anderson deliver! The cajones on this guy to not only attempt to adapt a Roald Dahl story but use stop motion animation and fully succeed in doing so is absolutely unreal. What makes this story so compelling, like most Dahl stories, is its ability to appeal to both children AND adults. It’s fun, witty, clever and at times simply brilliant. The wonderful stop motion puppetry and the beautiful autumn aesthetic create such a stunning work of art. Combine that with the thrill of a heist movie and the tenderness of a family drama and you got yourself a winner.
