Three escaped convicts travel across the Deep South, with the law on their tale. Along the way they encounter a variety of problems. Not only is the story line enticing and comedic with brilliant performances, but there is also a tunning cinematography provided by the great Roger Deakins. The Coen Brothers started off the 21st Century with this piece of brilliance.
With the great Scorsese’s birthday recently, I felt it was appropriate to rewatch one of his best films. I enjoyed it just as much the second time, if not more. I was pleased to discover he won Best Director for this film, fully deserved. It has one of the best casts in cinematic history, Nicholson, DiCaprio, Damon, the list goes on. A terrific plot that unravels and gets more enticing as the film develops, presenting the problems faced when two men both try to infiltrate the Irish Gang, of course they both have different reasons for this.
A heartbreaking look at drug addiction, showing how it affects the user and those around them. Chalamet and Carrell both give quality performances. Seeing Nic constantly relapsing and David trying to fight his sons battle is incredibly frustrating, we understand why it’s happening but it’s painful just seeing the self destruction that is taking place within both of them. I was definitely moved when watching this film, incredibly powerful.
One of the best concepts I’ve seen in a film and it was executed superbly. Jim Carey is as always entertaining.

This film is incredibly underrated. Don’t go into it expecting a classic cop thriller/action film, it’s so much more. The relationship between Gylenhall and Penas characters is fantastic. Although the film may be categorised as action, it has beautiful moments of romance, comedy, friendship and utter sadness. It is also filmed in an incredibly unique way, with a majority of the shots coming from the chest cam of the police officers.
