One of the best films of the year by a mile. A slow, brooding study of masculinity and all its guises.
Benedict Cumberbatch is faultless, a career best in my opinion. Kirsten Dunst is remarkable, the score from Jonny Greenwood is as ominous as it is beautiful, and of course Jane Campion is just the best, isn’t she?
Wish I saw this in the cinema, cannot wait to watch it again. Maybe tomorrow.
Finally catching up with Soderbergh’s directorial debut and I really enjoyed this.
Sex, Lies and Videotape is a small film, that peers in through the window of a married couple’s life as it begins to unravel. Andie McDowell kills this role and James Spader as the voyeuristic, eternal-stranger is perfectly cast.
What I love most are the minor scenes. Soderbergh hones in on the milieu; focusing on the smaller, intimate moments that depict clearly what this story, and these characters are about…
