    I don’t know why it took me so long to watch this but Coco is just as good as every one promised. The reason I like Pixar so much is because it combines fiction and reality together in a way that almost makes it impossible not to emphasise with the stories being told, and Coco does this better than most. It’s bursting with colour, fun and emotion, but still manages to keep its important cultural core in place. The story is really intriguing the whole way through too

    The Umbrellas of Cherbourg


    The Umbrellas of Cherbourg seemed exactly like my kind of film - it’s visually stunning and extravagant, but it unfortunately lost me because the whole thing was sung. I love musicals, but when not a single word of dialogue is spoken it leads to a lack of emotional tone, and the story begins to feel very one layered.

    I do think the theatrical elements of this film such as the bold coloured outfits, dramatic actions and flamboyant set design play…

    Just two gals running away from their unsatisfying lives together wearing high rise mom jeans with their shirts tucked in... 

    I know this is for the most part very highly spoke of but I still can’t help but feel it’s very underrated, so so good.

    I think the thing that seperates this from any other coming-of-age movie is that, as much as I love them, I often I find that the characters are presented almost angel-like and in a way that we are supposed to love them - this presents a character that is flawed in so many ways. At times she’s selfish, at times she makes bad decisions and at times she’s kinda just a bit of a fuck up..... and I feel like…
