Becca’s review published on Letterboxd:
In a world where music biopics are consistently lifeless and repetitive the creativity and originality of this is an absolute breathe of fresh air. I don’t think Fletcher could have done anything more in his power to make this any more stand alone, but I do think biopics in general are bordering Disney live-action remake level of being unable to present something I don’t find even a little bit reused. No matter how different this one may be told, I do feel as though all the stories are very similar to each other and it makes me feel bored and underwhelmed when watching them. Sure, they all have their own distinctive features but it never seems to be enough for me to care that much. I do think this is very creatively delivered and understand why people like it, but when it comes to my personal taste music biopics just don’t do it for me.
