“The fear of becoming prey keeps both of them alive.”

Yoooooo, this is exactly what I wanted the film to be. I thought it was extremely entertaining and I found it to be a lot of fun. I’ll try to keep it as vague as possible, but here are some thoughts on it:

    – There’s some really clever moments, as well as an awesome long-take of Michael (which was one of my favorite sequences).

    – I loved the parallels (or…

Whiplash > La La Land > First Man > 80% of movies this year

Damien Chazelle does it again, this time making an intense, and often poignant film, about Neil Armstrong. I liked Gosling’s performance in this; however, I really liked Claire Foy’s performance, even though she was in it for less of the runtime.

I absolutely loved the choice to make this film as personal as possible, giving us plenty of grainy closeups of faces, keeping many of the shots as tight…

This time I’ll just mention a few smaller things I enjoyed:

    — I don’t normally like child actors in horror films, but I honestly enjoyed the little kid that’s being babysat.

Here’s some new thoughts after a second viewing, this time in IMAX:

I neglected to mention the score before because I hadn’t found it that special.  I don’t know what I was thinking because this time I found the score to be very pretty.

The moon scenes in IMAX are breathtaking.

I liked Gosling’s performance a little bit more this time.

    Task: A film before 1970

Ghostly, lavishly haunting, minimal, and atmospheric. This film does a lot with the imagination, keeping the chills hidden behind shadows and eerie sounds. I really liked it, but I think I was expecting something different. This is something I could see myself watching again, and when I do, maybe I’ll like it even more!
