You know you're in for a treat when a film starts with two words:
Dogwoof and Kartemquin.
I didn't know much about it and expected a skater documentary but there isn't that much skateboarding featured here anyway. At some point Liu focuses more and more on Zack's private life and his own childhood with some visits to Keire's past, effectively turning Minding the Gap into a foray of domestic abuse, abandonment issues and social conformity.
