Flo Lieb’s review published on Letterboxd:
Had very high expectations going into this, having loved Ford's A Single Man and considering the praise this movie got up front. Watching the opening credits sequence I felt like this was on the right track, possibly able to squeeze itself into my top 10 list of this year. After tediously long two hours I left the cinema instead quite disappointed. Two out of the three storylines are just utterly boring, been-there-done-that-material. The main storyline of the novel's narrative on the other hand is at times at least watchable yet so generic that not even another great turn from Michael Shannon can save it from mediocrity.
This was my final visit to the cinema this year which in itself was a very poor year for movies. So I guess it is only fitting that it bookends (no pun intended) on a bland indifferent film.
