Flo Lieb’s review published on Letterboxd:
The irony of this movie is Anthony Mackie is getting locked up for a crime he himself didn’t commit and no one witnessed while the white cop who murdered an unarmed black teenager on camera (!) walks free of any repercussions.
The Hate U Give covers a very important topic but goes about it too heavy-handedly. Starting with Khalil‘s death that is foreshadowed like nothing ever has been foreshadowed before. This has a similar feel to last year‘s Blindspotting although I think that one resolved itself less clumsily (despite its spoken poetry climax).
