we all know the moral point haneke was making, it's valid, he definitely didn't need to remake the movie in english to rub it in more, but! it's not about that. it's about that 10 minute long scene of susanne lothar just registering the death of her son, that scene is absolutely horrific and masterful.
i think my main issue is that i hate most movies where a bunch of parallel stories are going on because it makes me think of like, babel or crash (the paul haggis movie, not the cronenberg one). everyone is good in it and there are sequences i think are great (juliette binoche auditioning for that one role where she's told there's a gas leak in the room, ona lu yenke on a date with that girl), but as the stories drift, my attention does too. not my favorite haneke. maybe i'll watch it again and like it more.
