Riz Ahmed delivers probably the best performance of the year and the sound editing in this is impeccable.
The thing I love the most about ‘Sound Of Metal’ is how similar it is to Derek Cianfrance‘s other films with ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’ and ‘Blue Valentine’ in how well the stories are paced and how personal we get to know our characters. All of the characters he writes feel so natural and full of life and detail, even with minor characters like Ruben’s girlfriend Lou.
The first act of the film is my favorite part as someone has had some hearing problems growing up, I can definitely relate to the denial and frustration that Ruben goes through. I really love this film and I’m looking forward to what Derek Cianfrance does next, he truly doesn’t miss. Riz Ahmed award SZN approaching.
