i watched about 30 minutes of the middle of this while at work & i've seen the after credits scene like four times.
yeah, im logging this shit
as a slasher, it's boring as fuck. as a gritty backwoods thriller, it's bland as fuck. as an addition to the texas chainsaw lore, it's honestly pretty insulting. i mean you can tell how watered down & studio polished it is, which is more genuinely infuriating to see in a texas chainsaw massacre movie than pretty much anywhere else. bleh
the dream designs are creative & eye-grabbing. the concepts are funny yet gripping. freddy is in his corny one-liner phase full throttle but you still feel the dread from his presence. the practical effects are grotesque. some of the most shockingly bizarre deaths in the whole series are here. the character dynamics aren't as memorable or original as they are in dream warriors, but the world that they're in feels more grounded & gritty in a way, even if this one has more elaborate & fantastical set pieces for the nightmares. oh, and the dreamy sinead-heavy soundtrack is the icing on the cake
i just can't believe they dedicated almost half the movie to michael's childhood origin & it actually worked. i would've never thought that it would ever work. like it's actually quite a bit better than the second act. uncomfortable, detailed, brutal. a lot of the second act is also actually pretty terrifying. i love rob
