Shoutout to @spingy19 for the request.

I was hesitant to watch this. Not because it was bad, but because it is known as one of the saddest movies ever made. It didn't help that I viewed this at a time where my baby sister came to visit. It starts out cute, but ends in a way that has you wallowing in tears.

Seita tries to shield his little sister from the horrors of WWII and a declining Japanese Empire. He won't even let her see their mother's charred corpse. This film is a counterpoint to Life Is Beautiful, as Seita's desire to protect his sister's innocence ends in both of their demises.
