Scene of the Crime ★★★

Though it plays out like a Dragnet-esque procedural, not all that interesting on its own, Scene of the Crime boasts a script by Charles Schnee that has some quality sections infusing terse street vernacular into most every exchange.

But the talent is also of quality and because MGM is not often thought of as a factory of film noir like some of it's grittier competitors, it's a joy to see familiar actors play within these beats namely Van Johnson, Arlene Dahl, Gloria DeHaven as a sultry nightclub singer, and Norman Lloyd in a minor but particularly delightful turn as a cheeky informant.

While not a spectacular offering nor a completely tense investigation, the picture is made satisfying by the script and the characters.
