"Aww." That's the overriding reaction you'll have from The Intern as the end credits roll. It's so charming and endearing that you can't help but like it. Not as good as What Women Want but still the sort of film I could watch again and again on ITV2 in four years time. The basic premise follows widower Ben (De Niro) as he applies for a senior internship at a successful e-commerce company and ends up helping out the boss, Jules (Hathaway). Little by little, he becomes a trusted member of the workforce and just might be what the overworked Jules requires when it comes to managing not only her business but also her family.
Aww. Ben literally doesn't put a foot wrong the entire film. Nothing at all. No drama, no shouting, just good old amiable Ben. Trusty Ben. Ben the Intern. De Niro is perfect in the roll and has a winning chemistry with Hathaway that ultimately leads to one of the warmest films of the year. Switch your brain off and enjoy this lazy ride through charmville. Could easily have been trimmed though.
