Every December, 25 movies are inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress, who encourages the public to nominate movies they deem "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" for the Registry. A movie must be at least 10 years old to be considered. For the fourth year now, I've been submitting 50 movies (the maximum) per year to the Registry - they clearly take the public vote seriously, as a whopping FOUR movies I nominated made it in for 2021, plus two the previous year.
The nominations close August 15, 2022 and the link to nominate movies is here: www.loc.gov/programs/national-film-preservation-board/film-registry/nominate/
Since there's always so many notable, classic, instant classic and "how is THIS not being preserved forever?" movies…

Since there's always so many notable, classic, instant classic and "how is THIS not being preserved forever?" movies that get passed over year after year, and I can only induct up to 50 movies a year, I put together a longlist for the second year. In addition to the four movies on my final nominations that got in last time, a few movies that were on the longlist also got in: Watermelon Woman, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Fellowship of the Ring.
I don't know if I'm going to sort my nominations into time periods like last year, but if I am... it'll still be hard to narrow down the post-1980 movies.
Will be gradually updating throughout the year with more movies
Scorecard:
2021: 4 (Pink Flamingos, Return of the Jedi, Selena, and What Ever Happened to Baby Jane)
2020: 2 (Hurt Locker and Shrek)
2019: Unknown (I didn't have LB and didn't save my nominations at the time. Might have suggested Clerks, Purple Rain or Boys Don't Cry.)
