Teenage angst can be very hard to capture in film, especially teenage girl angst. I've seen films time and time again attempt to portray teenage girls and the end result is disingenuous. You don't have to like Hailee Steinfeld because let's face it, she is annoying at times, but what her character felt was real. Her struggles do not have to make sense to us, the viewers, what matters is it made sense to her. This was a honest and raw portrayal of a young girl. Not many films have achieved that.

Stereotypes? Male gaze? Rape? Where do I start? Let's start with the writing...was it all a joke? None of the characters were fleshed out enough to even feel real in the slightest! That script needed to go through a few more edits because jesus christ was it was horrible.
