In Florida and many other states, new laws are robbing trans youth and adults of gender-affirming healthcare. Pride events are threatened with cancellation, trans people and drag artists are being banned from public life. Teachers are forbidden to talk about LGBTQ+ lives and Black history. Children are forbidden to play sports or use the bathroom. These laws are accompanied by threats and violent acts by organized far-right groups.

We can’t wait for the next election. People’s lives are on the line now. Activists and organizations in Florida are fighting back, and we want to stand with them. That’s why trans activists and allies from across the U.S. are calling for a National March in Florida to Protect Trans Youth and a Speakout for Trans Lives on Saturday, October 7 in Orlando, Florida.
Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida’s state legislature are in the forefront of the attacks on trans lives. DeSantis recently signed laws banning trans people from using public restrooms, authorized kidnapping trans children across state lines, expanded the “Don’t Say Gay” law and banned healthcare for all trans people. DeSantis also signed laws targeting abortion rights and immigrants.
These measures are part of a coordinated campaign by the rich taking place in state legislatures around the country and will come in even greater numbers next year unless we take action. Recent Supreme Court rulings against affirmative action, LGBTQ+ equality and abortion rights show that lower court actions are delaying tactics at best. Only the power of the people, mobilized in large numbers, can turn the tide.
The first national march for LGBTQ+ rights was in 1979, bringing over 100,000 people to Washington, DC. Many other national marches have been organized over the last 44 years, often coinciding with major shifts in the struggle for queer and trans liberation. With all of the attacks now happening around the country, now is the time for us to come together and stand up against the escalating attacks - on queer and trans people and on all of our siblings - and build a bigger, more coordinated movement to oppose the rise of fascism in the U.S. We can only win this by uniting our struggles.
How You Can Help:
* Join us on October 7 in Orlando. Tell the fascist, capitalist right-wing movement stealing our rights and terrorizing our communities that we will not back down.
* Help organize the march. We meet regularly to coordinate outreach, logistics, and everything necessary to make this march a success. Contact us to join the next Zoom meeting.
* Help raise funds. We know it's not cheap to travel, and there are many other expenses associated with the march. Click here to give or host an event, start an online fundraiser, or find other ways to show support. Contact us with any questions.
* Spread the word. Tell your friends. Hand out flyers (<a href=>click here) at local queer spaces and events. Share it online. Invite other groups to get involved - any progressive group is invited, not just LGBTQ+ organizations!
* Endorse the march. If you or any group you are part of wants to show support, click here and fill out the endorsement form.
Our Demands:
Our demands go beyond just the fight to protect trans youth and stand up for LGBTQ+ right. Queer and trans people are part of every group, every race, every nation, and we cannot fight for our rights without fighting for the rights of all. The attacks on immigrants, abortion rights, and Medicaid and SNAP - to name just a few - are attacks on us as well, and they all come from the same place: the capitalist class.
We demand
* Reverse DeSantis's bans on trans healthcare, restroom access, and Black and Queer studies in Florida.
* Stop the racist attacks on our communities - whether through police terror, anti-Black or anti-immigrant laws, laws banning Chinese nationals or others from owning property, or any other assault on people of color.
* Stop the censorship and attacks on civil liberties of teachers, students, and libraries.
* Free, legal, and accessible abortions. End all abortion bans!
* Hands off Pride! Many Pride events in Florida and other states with bans on drag performances (which are often written to include trans people as well) have been cancelled this year. We demand these bans be ended.
* Demand that Biden and Congress enforce civil rights from coast to coast. The Democrats have failed to live up to their promises to fight the right's assault on our rights. Tell them to stop funding wars and start funding social programs. Tell them to fight for LGBTQ rights and abortion rights and against racist terror.
* Expand Medicaid and SNAP. Both programs have suffered cuts in recent years, including major cuts when the COVID emergency was wrongly ended. Millions have suffered because of these rollbacks.
* Stop voter disenfranchisement. The people of Florida voted to expand voting rights to those convicted of felonies, but the capitalist-owned government there has ignored the will of the people and refused to enact this. We demand voting access for all.
* Drop the charges on the Tampa 5. The Tampa 5 are students who stood up against DeSantis and his attacks on education in the state, specifically a protest against defunding DEI programs. They face felony charges that could send some of them to prison for over a decade. We demand all charges against them be dropped!
