Diabolik returns to the big screen!
No, this one doesn't have the style of Mario Bava's highly entertaining 1968 effort, and is curiously low on action sequences (outside of a very cool car chase during the intro), but it's still an entertaining film.
I'm curious to see how the two announced sequels will fare.
Director Stephen Hopkins followed-up Predator 2 (a personal favourite of mine) with this highly entertaining thriller.
Stylishly shot, it takes an often seen premise (someone witnessing a crime, with a chase ensuing), and manages to make it an "edge of your seat" experience, one that makes Chicago's urban landscapes look like something out of a post-apocalyptic film.
The soundtrack, that sees alternative/grunge/metal artists collaborating with hip hop artists, fits the action quite well.
Well worth a watch.
A charming and fun entry in the spy genre, Our Man Flint is lighter in tone when compared to the Bond series, with plenty of humour, but without ever reaching parody.
The film benefits from a captivating performance by James Coburn (as the unstoppable and ultra-cool Derek Flint), a well-rounded cast (full of gorgeous women, led by the lovely Gila Golan), and a catchy soundtrack by the great Jerry Goldsmith.
Arnold Schwarzenegger's proper return to the big screen, and director Kim Jee-Woon's first US production, The Last Stand is a surprisingly satisfying and energetic neo-western.
Contrarily to what its marketing campaign made it out to be, it's less a film about a single character/actor (Schwarzenegger), and more of a film about a group people, in this case a bunch of "regular joes" from a small border town, trying to defend it and themselves from a major drug kingpin.
Between Kim…
