on my very first day of elementary school, i got in trouble for reading little women under the desk; i read the book so many times over the course of my childhood that i lost track, so you can imagine how it feels to see greta gerwig grasp the compassion at the heart of this story.
this is just such a lovely take on alcott's books! i wasn't a fan of some pacing choices and some developments felt a bit too rushed but these women...... so filled with longing and vibrancy and brimming with emotion. florence pugh and saoirse ronan are of course fantastic, amy and jo bouncing off each other constantly because they're too alike to ever fully make peace. gerwig conjures up such a breathtaking cocktail of joy and grief that it left my head spinning, falling in love with the march girls all over again.
