both the lesbian supernatural thriller i desperately needed and possibly the most relatable film i've seen all year - i feel very represented by eili harboe's portrayal of a morally ambiguous epileptic lesbian struggling with her first year of university.
joachim trier's use of chilly sterile spaces is a+; quite a few shots reminded me of arrival in the way that their coldness invokes the uncanny. overall, thelma is surreal, unexpected and at times genuinely disturbing. needless to say, i loved it.
