Truly fuck anyone who says they don’t like “musicals”. Specifically this movie is why I think musicals might be the highest art form and absolutely the form that is most untapped for its potential. A pure unpretentious vision made by renaissance artist so confident and skilled that he never has to abandon the film’s cabaret comedy base, even when its final numbers start to carry the massive, celestial magnitude of 2001. Heartbreaking, hilarious and so monumental it’s hard to even point to one element of it to praise. Can’t believe I got to see it on the big screen, at 10:30 AM in the fucking morning. What a gift!
