For Genre Grinder Podcast reference.

There are simply too many slasher movies to cover the broad subject of slasher movies for one of these podcasts, so I'm planning an exhaustive look at all of the slasher movies released in 1981.

Only one year after the watershed moment that was Friday the 13th, the genre threatened to burn itself out in a flurry of more that *30* movies. There are presented here in order of theatrical release according to the letterboxd algorithm (note that Madman premiered in '81, but didn't get a wider release until '83).

A couple of these may end up on other lists in the future, like Bloody Birthday, for instance, which is a killer child movie with slasher movie trappings. There is plenty of canuxploitation and ozploitation overlap, as well.

I've also included some big studio thrillers, science fiction, and supernatural horror movies that borrow heavily from the slasher aesthetic.
