I find it difficult to believe that Phantom Thread succeeded where mother! did not. Both stories are about the relationship with creator and muse. Yet, for some reason, the critics and the people have decided that an ending where the muse continues to torture the artist in a psycho-symbiotic relationship rather than the muse succumbing to the pain and suffering she has endured without gratitude ... this is just beyond me. All in all, mother! did it better.
