GOOD GOD! Anatomy of a Fall is one of the GREATEST courtroom dramas I’ve ever had the pleasure of witnessing. The writing is truly something to behold, it’s constantly phenomenal. It takes a lot of guts to do two hours of court proceedings but wow, honestly, it’s enthralling throughout with each speech leaving me speechless. Sandra Hüller has to be THE front runner for Best Actress this year! She’s astonishing throughout with each monologue, especially the ‘big fight’ scene, amazing…

    Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

I’ve always been an unashamed Marvel nerd. These characters, first the movies and now the comics that inspired them, have brought so much joy into my life over the years that it is hard not to have a bias against anything that depicts them. That being said, when the first film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, came out, I had no idea what it was. Without seeing a trailer, or any advertising for it, I went to the cinema with a…

    ★★★★

Oh wow, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is honestly REALLY good! The story is brilliant, the cinematography is gorgeous and Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler are both fantastic throughout, their chemistry is perfect and work off each other beautifully! While the final third does begin to drag, the first two acts are tense and compelling, packing a punch as it concludes in a truly brilliant way.

It’s not often prequels are this good, but this one…

    The Marvels

    ★★★½

The Marvels is a wild ride, I honestly had an utter blast with it! Sure, it’s disjointed at times and has a disappointing, utterly terribly underdeveloped villain in Dar-Benn, that really lets the film down…but it’s hard not to have an amazing amount of fun with it as a whole. It’s MCU comedy back at its best with hilarious fight sequences, the first one is wonderful, and great direction by Nia DaCosta that works like a charm. Brie Larson and…

All Quiet on the Western Front

    ★★★★

All Quiet on the Western Front is the best war film I’ve seen in quite some time, arguably standing alongside 1917 and Hacksaw Ridge as one of the best this decade.

Not often are films made from the German perspective, let alone make you sympathetic towards the soldiers. Yet it’s an approach that worked wonders for me. These men weren’t monsters, simply soldiers under the orders of a deranged man. That’s what makes All Quiet on the Western Front one…
