That Man from Rio ★★★★½

In my opinion, the definitive adventure film of all time. It is a globe-trotting adventure that follows a deadpan French soldier on leave as he follows his kidnapped girlfriend into Brazil and gets mixed up in a plot to steal ancient statues with a hidden secret. It is hilarious, full of amazing set-pieces even by today’s standards, off-the-wall characters, and smart writing. It is the best Tintin film that isn’t a Tintin film. No wonder Steven Spielberg wrote the director after making Indiana Jones and said he’d seen this film nine times. This is a film you shouldn’t miss.
