This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Okay, I want to think this film is as great as everybody else does, but there are exactly two shots that mar the whole thing for me:

    1) The shot of Chekhov’s knives in Act One.  As soon as I saw that cabinet I thought to myself, ‘Well Jong-su is clearly going to stab someone before the end of the film.’  It doesn’t take too long for the Prime Stabbing Candidate to show up, so the last 90 minutes were…

‪When did they start releasing Lifetime movies in the cinema?‬

‪Anyway, if you wondered what GONE GIRL would be like with an idiotic plot, adapted by a hack writer, and directed by a wobbly, style-less bore, I guess you’ll be sated by this hollow, brainless trash.‬  Make no mistake, Fincher’s film will be remembered centuries after savage, hydrophobic raccoons have chewed up and spat out the very last Walmart bargain bin DVD copies of Paul Feig’s shitty ripoff.

Felix Van Groeningen is a singularly talented director.  His single talent is taking truly great pieces of music and misusing them so that you not only hate them, but start to hate all of Music as an art form and wish it had never been invented.

Anyway, Carell and Chalamet are stellar (and frighteningly authentic), but they’re just not enough to rise above all the piss and shit they have to wade through.

‪The first half of a visionary mindfuck is stitched to the second half of a (basically unrelated) stylish but standard Nic Cage revenge pic.‬  My star rating is a compromise between the two halves.

‪Cosmatos would do well to find a better scenarist or return to the minimalism of his first film.  Narrative is overrated, but if you’re going to put this much effort into one it needs to be stronger.  A mild disappointment.‬
