marie was out here co-opting the cottagecore aesthetic centuries before the girlies!! anyway, what’s that sound? oh right, it’s the sound of the guillotine

    A Chorus Line

cutting most of the hello 12, hello 13, hello love montage is one of the biggest crimes in musical adaptation history

(along with giving what i did for love to cassie)
(and changing the iconic opening number choreography)
(and somehow diminishing the emotional impact of paul’s monologue?)

as you can tell, i’m a fan of the show but somehow hadn’t seen this adaptation till now. I still enjoyed it despite my gripes because i’m me and it’s a dance movie, but i’d recommend other people to just watch every little step instead — one of my favourite ever documentaries and the superior way of putting a chorus line on film.

I have such mixed feelings on this series, and far too many feelings to write in a review of a length that I can be actually bothered to write

    things I did like:

    - Lily Collins as Fantine

    - The way Fantine’s story was handled

    - David Oyelowo as Javert

    - The Thenadiers

    - Gavroche

    - They let Enjolras and Grantaire die holding hands

    - They included workers and women at the barricade

    - Some of the aesthetics/visuals were gorgeous

    - The last episode was a good and emotive stand alone feature
