Is it okay that I didn’t feel right about laughing at so much of this? I feel internally conflicted about it because of the subject matter, but also okay because it’s clear the film wants me to laugh. And for that matter, is the message of the film bankrupt? Is it winking at kidnapping all to make James feel more comfortable? 

I don’t know yet, and the execution of the film makes me more intrigued than angry with that ambiguity. 

It also feels like a love letter to pop culture nerds, and that’s fun.
