Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★½

Lets get one thing out of the way... if Daniel Kaluya doesn’t win the Oscar for best supporting actor then the Oscars will be even less credible than they already are. His first scene in the movie was enough to give him the award. I mean, shit, he acted his ass off and gave us an incredible performance.
The movie itself was great! Expectations were sky high going into it just because of how good the trailer was. The movie didn’t quite meet those expectations but still knocked it out of the park. It was a fantastic drama about a man and his revolution. The supporting cast and lead actor Lakeith Stanfield were also great. Where the movie fell a bit for me were the sequences of Fred’s love life. These scenes felt added just to add to the emotional punch his death scene would have, but at the end of the day those scenes were a bit boring and felt distant from the rest of the film.
All in all, amazing film displaying the raw events leading up to Fred Hampton’s death, backed by amazing performances, great direction, tense sequences of editing, and a compelling story.
