i do not like quentin tarantino. i felt uncomfortable the entire film knowing that an influential white man was behind the reigns of a film depicting the history of the slave trade in the south. the classic tarantino cinematic tropes were a fun novelty (the crash zooms and comedic gore) but i felt the comedic value drew attention away from the deeply horrific subject matter. in particular the kkk scene i struggled to enjoy. ever since i saw tarantino unnecessarily writing his own character to say the n word in pulp fiction i haven’t been overly warmed to his work, although that being said i did enjoy hateful 8, but this didn’t have quite the same impact for me.
