George Machin’s review published on Letterboxd:
Healing has gorgeous cinematography, amazing performances from the lead actors (particularly Hugo Weaving) and the magical presence of live animals in front of the camera.
The film takes place in an Australian correction centre, and focuses on the experiences of several individuals who are given the unique privilege of looking after injured birds in the hopes that it will aid in their rehabilitation into society. The way the film portrays the connection built between the individuals and the birds is a highlight.
While the film does deal with some darker themes, the overall tone is one of an uplifting nature. If you're at all interested in good realistic human drama and also want to experience the majesty and beauty of large birds then Healing is definitely worth your time.
