Malignant ★★★★½

james wan did a digital james wan spooky ghost movie combined with a hint of sam raimi and a slasher full of gore, slow suspense sequences, so many varieties of influence mixed into one in this silly, campy as hell masterpiece. horrific and silly in equal measures, and those two elements only enhance each other throughout. james threw in the fuckin kitchen sink in this cosmic gumbo and I ate it the hell up oh my GOD I adored this. wan goes through so many flashy and varied formal techniques that I couldn’t begin to cover here. it’s not perfect and there are some little issues here and there but I honestly don’t care. go in blind. this is an absolute treat for horror fans and goes to gnarly, bonkers places, and somehow makes this hodgepodge of horror zaniness work. I love this movie
