Akira 1988
Many, many years ago I bought Akira on Blu-ray for €1 and it’s probably the best euro I’ve ever spent.
This film will never cease to amaze me. A common misconception about Akira is that it’s fully animated on ones, which isn’t true. But even though this is saved for certain key scenes, the rest of the film —which is animated on twos and threes— looks just as good. It’ll have you glued to the screen for two hours with its fluidity…

I didn't like this nearly as much as House of Usher, but it was still enjoyable enough as a Halloween watch. I guess I just really like matte painting castles and polystyrene dungeons.

Sadako my beloved.
I'm fairly certain I've seen this before on MTV's Asian Screen program in the early 2000s. After all this time, Ringu is still a joy to watch. It's a great mix between horror and a slice-of-life drama and I love how different it feels from the US remake.
