I'm tempted to give this film an additional full star- simply because we are given a scene where Nicolas Cage demolsihes a pool table with a sledgehammer while singing the Hokey Pokey.
Yet another Stanley Kubrick movie that I found myself engrossed by all the way through.
The first half of the film is headlined by outstanding an performance from R. Lee Ermey , who as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman is remarkable and was allowed by Kubrick to improvise a majority of his expansive dialogue. Additionally, Vincent D'Onofrio delivers an authentic performance as Private Lawrence ("Pyle"), an overweight and clumsy Marine recruit. D'Onofrio notably gained 70lbs. in order to play the role.
