Perfectly adequate but left a fair bit to be desired.
Cool casting, smacked with a criminal 90’s sense of atmosphere, & a playful handle on a single space, tension based thriller.
It should be better, or at least more memorable. A few good cuts at certain points throughout the story. Still, it never lifts up into something wilder. The mild, well structured setting keeps the whole thing anchored & driven — even if it ends up nowhere.
Christian Bale is so fantastic to watch — with his new role in Thor love & thunder coming soon, I wanted to watch something I’ve never seen before with him in it.
Felt like a bit of The Matrix crossed with 1984 but without the level of groundbreaking as either influence. It’s cool & that is all.
james wan is one of my favorite working directors — man has has launched 3 of horror’s juiciest franchises within the last two decades. safe bet that if he’s in the director’s chair, shit is gonna slap.
