The Princess

The Princess

It is a strange feeling, watching a film constructed entirely of archive footage, all of which I experienced in real time—including being a child on the side of the road, waiting then waving at the new princess; and being a student radio newsroom editor, trying to cover her death in a “cool” and “ironic” nineties way.
It is well constructed and I am sure will be interesting and maybe deeply fascinating to those who did not live through it, but it just made me sad and nauseous all over again and felt particularly .101 on “media” and “society” and “the firm”.
Maybe it needed some Mike and the Mechanics. Maybe it needed a smart woman to come into the room and say “this old shit again? Let’s take another look, shall we?”
