passionate display of messy emotions from an old man desperately trying not break down as he narrates these romanticized experiences from the many lives he's lived and the love that he's lost. it's structured in accordance with the same intertwining demonstrations of love and violence which are so prevalent in kitano's work but the editing is so freeing compared to his typically earthbound long take structures—blood splatters and autumn leaves and flowers in full bloom blanket the frame as if to try and comfort these doomed lovers with the warmth of hope for the future🥀

avoided this and really wanted to hate because i'll never get over how awkwafina got on by unapologetically appropriating and making a complete joke out of black aesthetics before settling into this dramatic reclamation phase that we're all supposed to take seriously and now she works for marvel🤨 but i don't have anything negative to say and i really like that it does its own thing and doesn't try to convince you it's not just another american indie movie even…
