Grant Hodges’s review published on Letterboxd:
Shockingly mainstream for a film directed by Richard Linklater, there’s not much to be said about School of Rock. It’s not a bad movie (in fact it’s quite good at what it’s doing), but it does all feel a little generic. Still, between Jack Black and Joan Cusack’s performance’s as well as the amount of long takes on display here, there’s a lot to love. And that’s why I’d recommend it.
Plus, given Linklater’s proclivity for making films involving the passage of time, I think it would be really fun to make a sequel to this today. And maybe just pretend no time has passed even though the kids are old as fuck now.
