Vampyr ★★★

Visually striking and perfectly atmospheric, Carl Theodore Dreyer’s Vampyr is far more than another vampire (or should I say vampyr) movie. While the story may be trite, it’s the surrealist elements that keep you engaged nearly 90 years later. Of course, the film does feel a bit at odds with itself - clearly not wanting to commit to being fully sound or silent. And I’m not going to say the piece is perfect. But if you’re looking for a spooky fun time capsule, Vampyr definitely fills that quota.
