war sucks, don't do it kids.

think i really like this Keisuke Kinoshita guy. would be better if it shaved a few minutes off (have no issue with the length necessarily, just its pacing and structure) and if the time skips didn't feel so haphazard. but ultimately I was very touched by this when it wasn't so intent on drowning me in sentiment. the ending got me hard though.

if anything this goes to show the remarkable and invaluable ability…

every dolly in/out shot of this movie evokes such a feeling in me that's very hard to convey that I kinda have to throw my hands up and say it's magic. so gentle in its observations of heartbreak, grief, regret, love, and the miles and miles that separate those within different class systems. but one thing I appreciate about this movie is it doesn't just allow itself an easy life sucks ending; that despite all these things that may keep…

it's fine, a laugh was had here and there, but was kind of waiting for it to drop the humor and go full-tilt bleak (my brain kept flicking back to Fail Safe, or Miracle Mile) and it never gets there. pulls its punches a little too frequently for the sake of keeping it light rendering a lot of the dramatics weightless. gonna be an insufferable few months when James Corden names this his favorite movie and how we need to do more.

    timmy mvp of the movie.

    The Beatles: Get Back

I'll never have the same level of attachment to the Beatles as many of my friends do given that up until like maybe two/three years ago I didn't really give them much attention outside of a few solo cuts (Ram primarily which I think is the best solo Beatles record that I've heard anyway) and the occasional strawberry fields forever loop. for a long time I did just lump them with a band that my white friends and white people…
