27 nearly insufferable minutes. i don't really even have the words. the target audience seems to be sociopathic adolescents who would find humor in the idea of a person being an antagonistic jerk to a train full of bereaved people. "i can't believe a person is saying these awful things in this social situation" is a thin comedy vein to begin with, but also one that has been mined earlier, more successfully, and with far greater wit than mcdonagh does here. i actually find it hard to believe this film was made in 2004 and not 1994, for the way it reeks of post-tarantino pop culture references and misbegotten attempts at dark humor. relative brevity is its only virtue, though i checked my watch at the 16 minute mark and couldn't believe i was barely halfway done.
