Easily the best horror film of 2014. I can't really review this film without giving away my interpretations which are also spoilers.
It reminds me of a cross between The Shining and The Orphanage. Whilst it is scary at the beginning the deeper it goes into the mother's mental illness the more fantasy the Babadook becomes. The acting from both leads is terrific and it does not outstay its welcome.
The real horror for me were the scenes with her child just screaming and kicking the chair and demanding attention. Oh my god. It made me sure I never want kids ever. Or I'd end up exactly like the mother.
