Men 2022
So absurdly on the nose and yet pretty intricate and interpretable at the same time. Beautifully shot, but there were so many instances in which I had to cover the screen. I had an awful time watching large swaths of this and yet I was fully engrossed.
I have very contradictory feelings, but I liked it overall. Fantastic sound design too.
I'm kinda pissed at Alex Garland for suddenly switching from sci-fi to harrowing psychological horror without giving me proper warning, I was not prepared.

The kind of movie that needs a few watches and maybe an explanation video or two on YouTube before you fully appreciate it. Not one of Alex Garland’s best, and it’s definitely polarizing, but there is still a lot to love and appreciate in just how outside the box he is as a writer/director.

This is definitely a vibe flick. I don’t think it quite delivered in the end but I enjoyed the first half’s folk horror and the body horror at the end. I just really don’t know what to make of the whole production though. If you liked Mother? You might dig this. I will say though Alex Garland had a vision and I’ve loved his past efforts so I’m glad he gets to keep making weird stuff like this with a vision.

Truly, honestly, genuinely, what the fuck? My only theory is that the ending sequence is a metaphor for the infantile motivations behind every abusive man’s actions. Violent, psychosexual, obsessive, matronising her against her will; such is the mind of every abusive man. And just as in the movie, they are all the same. The significance of biblical imagery throughout is more than apparent, as in all feminine horror movies gaslighting is a current running through this movie, driving it. I…
