Sony has never really had much luck with Spiderman, having misfire after misfire with each movie they released. The only film that fired on all cylinders was the second Raimi film, which had me leaving the theatre wondering if they could ever top it. Sadly, they didn't.
Spiderman: Homecoming starts right after the events in Captain America Civil War, with Peter Parker being dropped off to go back to his life as a 15 year old dealing with school, and everything that comes with that. This is what makes it different, this feels more like a John Hughes movie more than a super hero film, and it is what the Spiderman franchise needed to save it from the brink.
