Despite being very well shot and boasting some great performances and a handful of genuinely unnerving scenes, Hereditary sadly squanders all its potential on a script that moves at a snails pace. I love slow burn horror as much as the next guy but there’s a limit and good god this movie tested it often.
Sadly this movie really ends up just becoming ANOTHER vengeful spirit movie, and a really fucking goofy one at that. Normally people laughing during horror movies pisses me off but I was laughing with them here in more than a couple of scenes. A shame, as a lot of the psychological and adult fear stuff actually works for the most part and makes it pretty damn harrowing at times - until it gets supernatural. Then it’s where it completely fucking lost me.
There’s a lot to like here, and maybe a second viewing will improve the movie for me. But as is, I was wildly disappointed with this movie.
